This post is a collaboration of quick thoughts for a possible Phoenix Hexapong Tournament. Nothing set in stone yet but the ball is rolling. This is good news for anyone in the Phoenix area that is already familiar with Hexapong.

Not sure what Hexapong is? Here's something that was posted here a while back about this hexagonal, multi-player table tennis table. You can also contact Guy Allen at the official Hexapong website.

As I have said in the past, this table tennis table is not your average playing surface. It's Hexagonal shape can be converted back into a traditional square shaped table when needed. When the game is played by experienced table tennis pros, the Hexapong design will ensure that the game play is unique and challenging. All you table tennis wizards out there in the table tennis world should check out Hexapong.

Hexapong The NOT Table Tennis Tournament

"I'm determined to get Hexapong to be a game worth playing!
-Guy Allen of Hexapong

The tournament will be called, "Hexapong The NOT Table Tennis Tournament” and is planned for the end of the year so that any and everybody can enjoy the winter climate here in Phoenix. Right now, it looks as if there might be three main events in the tournament. Those events are as follows.

Cutthroat Singles

Cutthroat Doubles

Team of Three

The tournament will be open to anyone that wants to play, regardless of skill and geographic location. Because of these tournament requirements, Mr. Allen has begun brainstorming a method for separating the recreational players from the competitive table tennis players that participate in the the Hexapong tournament.

Hexapong The NOT Table Tennis Tournament official rules

FIRST, all players will have to play a (3) game
qualifying round of Cutthroat Singles. From three games, players with
the least accumulate points will be placed in Group “C”, rating for
group “C” will be 1000 to 2999. The next level up will be Group “B”,
rating 3000 to 5999. The last group will be Group “A”, rating 6000 to
9000. This will establish a rating system for future events.

SECOND, each prospective group now has an idea of how players can partner up with others for
Cutthroat Doubles and Team of Three. Cutthroat Doubles and Team of
Three will be played the table tennis traditional way with partners
having to alternate hits and played for only one point per rally
(Competitive Method of Play for those that are familiar with the two
methods of play).

This could be very interesting not only to play but
to watch too. Anyone wishing to play Xtreme Singles and or Xtreme
Doubles will be given the option to do so. A minimum numbers of players
will have to be determined to establish a draw worth posting.

THIRD, a possible venue to host the Hexapong The
NOT Table Tennis Tournament might be a commercial building with a cafe in it
where the cafe owner will plan on offering a $2.00 discount on food orders in
addition to free parking.

FOURTH, is the subject of entree fees and tables (Hexapong tables only). This is where Guy needs some input before anything is final. Here are a few important details that he needs to work out to ensure a smooth and fun tournament.

How many Hexapong Tables would you think I would need in order
for this event to be worth participating in?

How much of an entry fee
is enough and should additional fees be collected for the Xtreme games?

For players wanting to play in this event a membership fee into the
“U.S. Hexapong Association” (USHA) will be collected and used for prize
money. Entry fees would have to be large enough to cover the cost of
getting a T-Shirt to commemorate the event and still have enough to
have cash prizes for each event that is played.

At what number of
entries does an event turn from a one day event to a two day event?

LAST, I'm working on how to get sponsors to be able to fatten the prize money
for the winners of each of the following events. Cutthroat
Singles (Groups “A”, “B” & “C”), Cutthroat Doubles (Groups “A”, “B”
& “C”), Team of Three (Groups “A”, “B” & “C”) and possibly
Xtreme Singles (Groups “A”, “B” & “C”) and Xtreme Doubles (Groups
“A”, “B” & “C”).

Is there anything further that the organizers of the Hexapong tournament should look into or be aware of for properly executing this tournament, besides a mental institution?

For more information, submit replies at Hexapong.com

Thoman at ITTF says that the absolute smallest space you want to leave
room for when placing a table tennis table in a room is about 35 ft.

Table tennis forums on the Internet

This post will take a quick look

into table tennis forums on the Internet so for those of you searching for table tennis forums, continue

reading through this page. This will be the first post in what will most likely be a two-part series about table tennis

forums that are online.

After reading this post, you'll see that I've only listed a few table tennis forums that are found online. If you know of a

table tennis forum that I didn't mention here, please leave a coment below and I'll be sure to add it to the second table

tennis forums post that I plan on adding soon after this one.

When looking for the correct table tennis information, table tennis forums are an excellent source of quality information

that players of all skill levels can use to improve their table tennis game.

One of a Kind Trading - table tennis forum

The first table tennis forum I'd like to mention is the forum over at the

awesome One of a Kind Trading (OOAKT) website. Initially, the inspiration for writing up this post was from reading an

article written by the person who runs the table tennis forums at OOAKT. His name is Haggisv and the article is titled,

"Table tennis forums - a wealth of untapped information" and if you'd like, you can view the article here.

Within the OOAKT table tennis forum, you'll find a massive amount of information on table tennis in general but with a focus

on table tennis equipment, specifically rubbers. Read or participate in table tennis discussion within any of the 19

different forum subcategories. When looking for reviews about table tennis equipment, this Australian based company provides

plenty of great information for those of you who take the time to research before you buy.

A quick look at the stats for this table tennis forum shows that there are over 75K articles/posts waiting for you to consume

. The member base is sitting pretty with over 1,000 members who are registered OOAKT table tennis forum members. I've

talked with Luna and Alex of One of a Kind Trading and with their table tennis knowledge, it's no surprise that they are the

creators of one of the best table tennis forums that are on the Internet. Follow this url which will take you to the One of a Kind Trading table tennis forum.

Denis Table Tennis World - table tennis forum

This next table tennis forum is even bigger than the last table

tennis forums I mentioned above. It's known as the 'Denis Table Tennis World forum' and it's located at the super popular

TableTennis.gr website. If you're asking yourself where can I find the best information online for table tennis, you should

stop by the DTTWF and start searching away.

The general table tennis forum member stats are one clue that this table tennis forum is a great community. There is a total

of over 4,400 members who are registered at this table tennis forum. Together they have combined to post over 125K table

tennis related posts that anyone can read and add to. If you've got a table tennis question these forums are a smart place

to ask.

If you'd like to take a closer look, follow this url which will up a new window displaying the Denis Table Tennis World forum.

My Table Tennis.net - table tennis super forum

I've intentionally decided to leave this next description of a table tennis forum short because this table tennis forum is

even bigger than the first two forums mentioned above. It's so popular that it actually needs no introduction. A few

thousand registered forum members is a great community, especially for the online table tennis world which is getting larger

everyday. How about a table tennis forum with several thousand registered members?

Have you been to My Table Tennis.net Super Table Tennis Forum (MTTSF)? This unique table tennis forum is just short of 20K

registered members. Yes that was 20,000 members and growing everyday. The sky is the limit for table tennis information

located within the MTTSF and if you can't find the exact piece of table tennis related information here, it's almost certain

that someone within the forums will be able to direct you to where you need to go online to find it.

Although uncommon, the Topshot Table Tennis blog will sometimes fall short of everything about table tennis and in that case

I'd recommend registering for an account at the MTTSF. There are thousands of table tennis players waiting for you to become

a part of this table tennis forum community. Follow this link to the My Table Tennis.net table tennis Super Table Tennis Forum.

Further information about table tennis forums

As I stated before, there are many table tennis forums located on the Internet which are ran by table tennis players from all

around the globe and the forums described within this Topshot Table Tennis post are just the tip of the Iceberg.

When

looking at forum members and the size of any table tennis community you come across online, bigger is always better but some

of the most useful table tennis information can be found tucked inside of table tennis forums that have only a few members.

As time passes, I've noticed more and more table tennis information seekers using online language translators to view pages

located here at Topshot Table Tennis. If English is not your first or primary language then you are in luck because there

are quite a few table tennis forums that are for table tennis players who don't speak English. When I visit table tennis

forums that are in different languages other than my own, I just use an online text to speech language translator that reads the posts to me in my language.

Thanks a billion for taking the time to scan through this table tennis blog post. If you want the table tennis world to know

about your table tennis forum, leave a comment below. No matter the size, even if you only have 2 members, I'd like to know

about the forum and I can assure you that anyone searching for table tennis forums online in the future will find it also.

The year 2008 was a memorable year for the sport of table tennis (ping pong) as the number of people playing the sport continued to grow stronger.

Fueled by the table tennis events at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games and popular movies released in 2007, the online table tennis community experienced massive growth in 2008.

This table tennis blog post takes a look at some of the most popular Topshot Table Tennis blog posts from 2008. These 5 blog posts are just some of the most popular table tennis posts from the Topshot TT in 2008.

Each post was chosen for either being among the most visited in 2008 or because it is one of my favorites. They are in no particular order and were not necessarily written in 2008.

Hexagonal multi-player table tennis table

Recently, I came across this interesting twist on a conventional table tennis table. It's called Hexapong and it's a table tennis game that uses a hexagonal table tennis table that offers game play for 2, 3, 4, or 6 players. Hexapong's selling point is it's ability to offer more multi-player action than traditional table tennis.
<div style="float: right;" 5px="" 5px;”="">

The hexagonal shape of the table tennis table, unique point value scoring areas and movable nets means that Hexapong

has something for every player. Hexapong has simple attachments that enable the table to be a conventional

rectangular table configuration.

When you've got a group of table tennis players who enjoy team sports, Hexapong can

be setup for two on two or three on three game action.

If you're a highly competitive table tennis player, you can

even take on two or five players at one time on this hexagonal multiplayer table tennis table.

Biggest collection of unique table tennis balls

<div style="float: left;" 5px="" 5px;”="">

When it comes to table tennis balls, there's a unique website out there that has the biggest and best display of table tennis balls I've ever come across while online. So if you're looking for information about table tennis balls or ping pong balls you'll definitely enjoy this website that I'm going to share with you.

This site describes itself as the world premier of a website with a huge amount of table tennis balls. To be exact, there are 834 balls featured on the website.

Table tennis balls are neatly categorized by star ratings, sizes, colors; and by many other ways as well. Navigating this site of many ping pong balls is delightfully easy.

This guy has some of the most interesting table tennis balls I've seen around which is why you might be interested in a table tennis ball exchange or trade with him. You see, many of the balls featured on his site are available for exchange / trade. This is the first post of a 2-part series that will focus on the many outdoor ping pong tables that are scattered

around the globe.

The objective of this 2-part series on outdoor ping pong tables and the people who play on them is

simple. To show others just how many different cultures either own or play on outdoor ping pong tables.

For the most part, competitive ping pong is played as an indoor sport. The greater majority of league play takes place indoors on indoor table tennis tables. Even more so is when it comes to table tennis tournaments which are almost entirely played indoors.

Playing table tennis outside for fun on outdoor ping pong tables is something that table tennis players of all skill levels really enjoy. In fact, there's probably more outdoor ping pong tables in the world today than there is indoor tables.

Have a look at this first post that shows outdoor pin pong tables from around the globe.

Outdoor ping pong tables from around the globe - part 2

This is part 2 of the outdoor ping pong tables from around the globe series. Here's the link for those of you who haven't read Outdoor ping pong tables from around the globe - Part 1

In part 1 of this series on outdoor ping pong tables, you saw a few pictures from different parts of the world that clearly show just how important table tennis on outdoor ping pong tables is to players all over the earth. Within the original post, you'll find a number of images of people playing ping pong outdoors that I posted to show competitive players just how important and wide spread the game is in other parts of the world.

Outdoor ping pong tables made of concrete and cement seem to be the most durable of the outdoor ping pong tables. Natural elements like rain, snow, and sunlight will take many years before decreasing the quality of play on an outdoor ping pong table made of concrete and cement.

As the pictures show, some parts of the world aren't as fortunate as other parts. These ping pong fans have made the best of their situation. Have you ever wanted to play table tennis as bad as those guys who are playing on one of the many outdoor ping pong tables from around the globe in this second part.

If you've ever wondered if it's possible to build a table tennis robot at home that's good enough to practice with then have a look at these pictures of a real gravity-powered table tennis robot that was designed from scratch by a few Georgia Tech Table Tennis players. What's so special about this ping pong robot is that it is constructed from scratch using only wood, glue, and a few other basic items that can be purchased at any hardware store.

Gravity powered homemade table tennis robot

This gravity-powered ping pong robot was built for a graduate school modeling and simulation project at Georgia Tech by 4 Georgia Tech Table Tennis Association students who are known as Ben Beck, Jay Johnson, Aaron Scott, and Ryder Winck. The homemade table tennis pitching machine was dedicated to the Spring 2008 Georgia Tech Table Tennis Team.

Gravity-Powered Table Tennis robot: Modeling and Simulation pictures

The next few pictures shown here are modeling and simulation screen shots of the homemade table tennis robot during conception. Both pictures show the main ping pong serving mechanism which is the heart of the table tennis ball pitching machine.

Girls playing topless highlight Ping Pong Palooza

This blog post is about where you can find and view a few pictures of women playing ping pong and table tennis that were taken at the second annual Ping

Pong Palooza tournament that was held in Las Vegas. For 2 years now, Sapphire Gentlemen's Club has played host to this recreational style table tennis tournament that features half naked topless

women playing table tennis at the world's largest gentlemen's club.

Ping Pong Palooza was initially inspired by the table tennis movie, "Balls of Fury", only with a unique Sapphire twist. Teams consisted of four players, three men and one female for this creative ping

pong event. There was even a special table positioned on stage for matches between the Sapphire girls. All players were promised medals and trophies and for the winners, Sapphire's bottle service with

all the perks.

The Las Vegas Table Tennis Club had no problems providing the tables and the referees, in fact they insisted. This topless table tennis tournament was even broadcast live on EPSN. If you missed this one, be sure to mark next years event on your calendar.

Here are some thumbnails of girls playing table tennis at the second annual Ping Pong Palooza at Sapphire's. These half naked ping pong photos were taken by Robert Trudell who

spends tons of time capturing and filming many table tennis and ping pong events. Each thumbnail will open up the full version of the picture in another window over at Rob's table tennis

website.

A few months ago, I posted an article here at the Topshot Table Tennis blog about a .99 cent table tennis paddle that was for sale at 99 Cents Only stores in the USA. Yesterday, I visited that same discount super store again and was somewhat surprised to notice that they added a second table tennis paddle to their shelves....both under a buck. The newest paddle even comes with it's ping pong paddle / carrying case which also acts as the packaging!

These super cheap ping pong paddles are great for recreational players and since they are only one dollar each, you could relieve stress after subpar performances by slamming it around and if you're a real hot head, setting your 'disposable' ping pong paddle on fire or something similar.

While still at the store I got an idea that made me laugh and so I purchased a few of these hardcore table tennis paddles to mess and play around with. For those of you who have friends that play the game competitively, these paddles can make the perfect gag gift with a little imagination.

How to Play Offensive in Ping Pong

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Ping-Pong is a wonderful game when played professionally , its take short time to learn but years to master. Choosing your playing style from the beginning of your journey is the key to your success. Ping Pong involves three main styles of playing : 1- offensive -2- Defensive -3-Neutral. In offensive style you want to mainly strike loops, top-spins, and smashes. The key to success is this style is to have the perfect form and drive , good concentration and of course great reflexes.

  Steps

Warm up before playing.

Start by warming up in-game by just hitting the ball with the bat slow then moderate then fairly fast. by this way you are adapting your body to react to different speeds of the ball. never use spin in a warm up.

Practice : get a friend to hit the ball for you with NO SPIN , as soon as the ball bounces on your side of the table and reaches the peek if its bounce start the forehand topspin drive to hit the ball. you're looking mainly to hit the ball in the 1 o'clock or 2 o'clock angle // hitting the ball this way will actually cause the ball to get good topspin with speed \\ make sure to hit the ball with your racket closed and partially tilted to the right as this will cause the ball to get side spin as well.

Know that ehe loop drive is the primary attacking stroke of serious players today. A loop is basically a spinney counterpart of a drive, emphasizing topspin over forward motion. Likewise, a stronger upward motion is required in the swing, grazing the ball instead of hitting it. Despite the nature of the loop, they can go just as fast as the drive-approaching 100 mph for an over-the-table loop by a talented player. If there were any doubts about the endurance requirements of table tennis, try hitting decent loops against extreme backspin time and time again. Players not used to this stroke may find it the most tiring for the first time.

Understand that depending on the characteristic of the incoming ball, the loop must be modified to hit the ball correctly. If a ball is coming in fast and high with heavy topspin, the paddle should be more closed and the swing should go forward more. However, if a chop came floating your way, then the correct thing to do would be to open the paddle somewhat, and perform a strong upwards swing-think of it as 'pulling the ball back up with the paddle'. This is especially what makes the loop such a tough stroke. As the ball touches the paddle for only a short time, as well as meeting on a more perpendicular path(as opposed to the highly parallel paths during a drive), good timing is critical to avoid completely missing the ball altogether. This means keeping a sharp eye on the ball throughout the stroke is important, as it is for all other strokes.

FOREHAND LOOP: From the ready position, bring the right foot slightly back(while transferring your weight to it). At the same time, rotate your body backward, and the paddle should be brought back and slightly down, depending on which spin you are hitting against. Bend your knees slightly. Start the stroke by rotating the waist and hips forward, and start straightening out the knees to add more force. The forearms should gradually accelerate from the back swing to contact, snapping for maximum speed when you meet the ball. Hit topspin balls at the top of the bounce or while it is dropping. Hit backspin balls while it is dropping. Follow-through forward more for top spins and upward more for back spins. The weight should be completely transferred back to the left foot at this point.

BACKHAND LOOP: This time, the back swing goes in front of your legs, and to do so you should drop your right shoulder somewhat. Remember to keep the eye on the ball no matter what the other parts of your body are doing. Rotate your waist to the left and transfer the weight to the left foot. Against topspin, unwind your waist and hit the ball at the top of the bounce(or during the drop) with a forward motion, but remember to just graze the ball as opposed to driving it. Snap your wrist at contact. Against backspin, remember to apply more of an upward motion, but also add a bit of forward force or you could hit your nose in the follow-through!(nothing like defaulting due to a self-inflicted nosebleed eh?

Notes on the loop: Since a lot of paddle speed is required in this stroke, the extra back swing, bending of the knees, and the usual waist rotation and weight transfer are all needed, not to mention the wrist snap at contact. A forward graze will produce higher speeds, but they can only be used on relatively high balls at the top of their bounce. Use something between the all-out topspin loop and extreme backspin pull-up for most rallies. Killer top spins are prone to the net or going off the end line, and excessive usage of the high arcing loop can lead to a deadly smash by your alert opponent. A relaxed posture is doubly important for loops, both your speed and consistency will improve if you can go through the swing 'naturally'. Keep your rubber in good condition; how much spin and control you put on your loop depends upon the tackiness of the rubber. Bad rubber=weak loops(if at all).

FOREHAND DRIVE: Keep the upper arm close, but not flush, to the torso. The forearm(form a rough 90 degree bend with the upper arm) should be drawn back to the 3 o'clock position, and let the waist turn naturally along with the arm(this is where relaxing is important). Shift your weight toward the right foot at the same time. While shifting your weight back to your left foot, swing forward with a slight upward motion, with the waist providing additional force in the swing. Use the elbow as a pivot point; it should not move so much up and down, but also should be allowed to move slightly forward in the follow-through. Contact with the ball should be made slightly to the side of the body after the top of the bounce. Make sure the paddle is somewhat closed(or facing downwards at an angle), and remains that way throughout the stroke. Follow-through should finish when racket is parallel with the left shoulder. Immediately return to the ready position. The left foot should be slightly in front of the right for support.

BACKHAND DRIVE: From the ready position, the waist turns left with the racket pointing towards the 9 o'clock position. When following through, contact with the ball is made in front of the body, slightly after the top of the bounce. Let the elbow again act as the pivot point, and snap the forearm forward in a slightly upward direction. Make sure the paddle is closed. Follow-through should finish naturally(about 12~1 o'clock) after contact with ball. The left foot should be slightly ahead of the right.

These are the advanced and basic terms of ping pong
